Gluten Free Options at The Meatball Shop

IMG_1282

The Meatball Shop is a  casual restaurant specializing in Meatballs with 6 Locations in New York City. The Meatball Shop has been on my list of restaurants to try since I moved to NYC last fall, and last weekend I finally had the chance to go, thanks to Jackie of Gluten Free Follow Me organizing a delicious brunch at the Upper West Side location .

If you’re wondering about gluten free balls, you’re in luck! The Chicken Meatballs are made with gluten free breadcrumbs and rice flour, and can be paired with the gluten-free classic tomato, pesto, or chimichurri Sauce.

I never knew there were so many ways to eat meatballs before coming to The Meatball Shop. You can have them Naked, topped with an egg, eggs-floretine style or “Kitchen Sink” style, served over the chef’s selection of greens and vegetables.

Of course I tried 3 chicken meatballs with the Kitchen Sink and a variety of sides to share and sample. The meatballs were delicious. Super flavorful and not overly filled with breadcrumbs and flour. The veggies were fresh and the sides were flavored to perfection. All the veggies tasted like they were freshly picked from the garden.

And for dessert, The Meatball Shop offers a variety of homemade ice creams. Unfortunately their cookies are not gluten free, but I am hopefully they will come out with a gluten free cookie soon for their famous ice cream cookie sandwiches!

I've been on a gluten free diet since January 2009. It's been an adventure, and a challenge at times. I love to go to new restaurants and try new foods, and being gluten free can make eating out difficult at times. But I will not let my dietary restrictions get in my way of finding new restaurants and products. These are my stories of being a young women in a big city, eating out and trying new foods, all while NOT eating gluten. Like I said, it's an adventure and you are welcome to come along... Please note that as I try to eat gluten free 100% of the time, my intolerance is not as severe as others so please use caution when dining at restaurants that are not certified gluten free.
