I was first introduced to Golden Girl Granola last February at the Boston Food and Wine Expo where they had a booth set up. I tried it and I loved it and then I never same them again; not at another event, not at the grocery store, and not at the health food stores. So when I was asked if I wanted to do a review on my site featuring Golden Girl Granola I was thrilled to try it again!

Golden Girl Granola is a family granola business based in Shirley, MA.  They make and sell loose granola in 14oz and 3oz bags, now available in stores throughout New England.

The mission at Golden Girl Granola is to provide a naturally healthful and deliciously crunchy product of the highest quality to their customers.

They promise to provide a granola that:

Golden Girl Granola is an all-natural, whole-grain granola that is non-GMO, dairy free, cholesterol free, casein free, trans-fat free, wheat free and has no preservatives, artificial color or flavors.

– is whole-grain and healthful
– uses the finest, all-natural ingredients
– is locally-produced, with locally-sourced ingredients, whenever possible
– is wheat-free, and is produced in a gluten-free kitchen
– is dairy free, casein free, tans-fat free
– is free of preservatives, artificial colors and flavors.
– is non-GMO
– is hand-crafted in small, artisan batches with the utmost care
– is beyond delicious!

Flavors include:

  • Original
  • Home Sweet Home
  • Truly Tropical
  • Pumpkin Harvest
  • Forest Maple
  • Creative Cranberry
  • Bluesberry
  • Chocolate Decadence

Although all granolas are wheat and gluten free only one flavor is made with certified gluten free oats: Truly Tropical. If you are like me and do not have a problem with oats then you can eat all 8 flavors. If you can’t handle oats then stick to the Truly Tropical.

So , lets start with the Truly Tropical. Made with certified gluten free oats, honey, cashews, dried mango, sugar, coconut, non-GMO canola oil, vanilla, and sea salt, this granola is sweet and crunchy. I like the combination of buttery cashews, sweet coconut and a little saltiness.

One serving— ¼ cup— has 150 calories, 8 grams of fat, 2 grams of fiber, 7 grams of sugar, and 3 grams of protein.

My favorite was the Pumpkin Harvest made with pumpkin seeds, raisins and pumpkin spices. I’m a sucker for anything pumpkin and this does not disappoint.

And now for the giveaway! One lucky reader is going to win 4 flavors of Golden Girl Granola!

I've been on a gluten free diet since January 2009. It's been an adventure, and a challenge at times. I love to go to new restaurants and try new foods, and being gluten free can make eating out difficult at times. But I will not let my dietary restrictions get in my way of finding new restaurants and products. These are my stories of being a young women in a big city, eating out and trying new foods, all while NOT eating gluten. Like I said, it's an adventure and you are welcome to come along... Please note that as I try to eat gluten free 100% of the time, my intolerance is not as severe as others so please use caution when dining at restaurants that are not certified gluten free.

  1. I like a granola that is not overly sweet and has lots of interesting, tasty ingredients. I don’t have a favorite brand … yet!

  2. Granola that is more natural, with less fat. I really like flavors that have maple, or even a little chocolate in them.

  3. I look for a granola that is healthy and tastes good by the handful, on yogurt or with milk poured over it. My favorite flavor of granola would have to be cranberry and nuts.

  4. I have not found one that is my favorite but I love ones that aren’t super hard and that taste just right with some milk.

  5. I always look at the sugar content of granola. Most brands are very high in added sugar. I like Ola granola.

  6. I tend to pay attention to if it is made from whole grains. I also like to check on the fiber and protein content compared to calories.
